With no sale of the team as of today, the Village of Schaumburg (IL) received permission today from a Cook County judge to evict the Schaumburg Flyers (independent; North American League) from Alexian Field. What comes next, though, is a little murky.
Receiving permission to evict and actually evicting are two different things: the Village now can lock up the ballpark tomorrow and seek a new tenant for the ballpark immediately. (Indeed, that’s the scenario we reported yesterday.) However, we’re awaiting official word from City Manager Ken Fritz about exactly what will happen; we’ll post the news when we receive it.
UPDATE: The city will indeed be receiving pitches from other leagues next week in an attempt to replace the Flyers. In addition, the city will be filing suit against Richard Ehrehreich and the rest of the Flyers ownership in an attempt to get back $551,800 in base rent owed and other additional monies — utilities, amusement tax, interest, etc. — that will bring the total amount up to over $900,000. Good luck with that: the lease to Alexian Field was the largest asset of the team, and without it, there’s not a lot left.
