Scotts Professional Seed announced an agreement with Beijing Clover Seed and Turf Co., providing the Beijing-based seed distributor with exclusive rights to market and distribute Sea Spray seeded seashore paspalum throughout China, as well as Hainan Island.
“Beijing Clover has a 15-year history of serving the Chinese seed markets, so this partnership with a trusted leader marks an important moment for Sea Spray,” explains Gordon Zielinski, director of international seed sales for Scotts Professional Seed. “Sea Spray has already been used on a number of courses in China and is perfect for the country’s geographic conditions, so we’re excited to increase its visibility and availability throughout China.”
Sea Spray, the turf industry’s first seeded seashore paspalum, has been available in China for two years. Several courses in China are already using Sea Spray, including Xiao Bu South Mountain Ecological Park in Hunan Province, Blue Ray Resort in Zhejiang Province, as well as a still-unnamed course in Guangdong Province. Each of these courses is using Sea Spray for tees, greens and fairways.
Ideal for humid coastal climates, such as the eastern portion of China, Sea Spray is well suited for areas irrigated with effluent water or subject to naturally high saline conditions. In addition – with water at a premium in China – the variety provides excellent drought tolerance, so irrigation rates can be reduced to save water.
In addition to Sea Spray, Beijing Clover also distributes Midnight II, Prosperity and Moonlight SLT on behalf of Scotts Professional Seed.
