Position: The Somerset Patriots are looking for highly motivated individuals interested in sports turf management for the 2011 baseball season. Employment runs from April/May through August/September and is flexible based on semester end / start dates. The position is salaried and turf students are encouraged to apply. The Somerset Patriots are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and host over 70 professional games as well as other events which have included the Big East and Northeast Conference baseball tournaments, professional soccer matches, and concerts.
Job Description:
•Assist head groundskeeper in maintaining and managing playing field and surrounding grounds
•Set up and break down for batting practice / games
•Daily operations in preparation for baseball games, corporate functions, special events
•Learn all aspects of turf management including mowing, irrigation repair, fertilization, aerification, topdressing, IPM, development of maintenance programs
•Learn all aspects of clay management including maintenance of infield skin, mound, and home plate
Qualifications:
Individual must be able to work long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Positive attitude with willingness to learn and work in professional environment. Must be 18 yrs or older and able to lift, carry, and transport 50 lbs.. Enrollment in a 2 or 4 year turf / horticulture program. Previous work experience in turf or related field required
