Rain Bird is taking the ESP-LX Modular to the next level by offering an all-new 12-station module that gives the controller the ability to accommodate up to 48 stations.

ESP-LX modular controller now goes to 48 stations

Since its introduction, Rain Bird’s ESP-LX Modular Controller has set a new standard for convenient, flexible irrigation system control for commercial and large residential sites. Now, Rain Bird is taking the ESP-LX Modular to the next level by offering an all-new 12-station module that gives the controller the ability to accommodate up to 48 stations.

“Prior to the launch of the new 12-station module, the ESP-LX Modular could be configured with a maximum of 32 stations using 4- and 8-station modules,” said Christen Brooker, product manager for Rain Bird controllers. “With the new 12-station module now making it possible to expand the ESP-LX Modular up to 48 stations, the controller is an even better choice for larger commercial properties.”

Installing the 12-station module is as simple as snapping it into place in one of the four module slots inside the ESP-LX Modular’s cabinet. The 12-station module can be mixed and matched with the ESP-LX Modular’s 4- and 8-station modules to provide the optimum number of zones for any application. After each 12-station module is installed, it provides 12 stations and one common terminal. Once the module is installed, it reflashes the ESP-LX Modular’s firmware, providing 12-station compatibility along with other new features including Dynamic Station Numbering and a module status screen under the controller’s “Special Feature” dial position.

“The Dynamic Station Numbering feature eliminates station numbering gaps,” Brooker explained. “Stations are always numbered sequentially in module slot order with no numbering gaps, regardless of whether the modules are installed in any particular order. This makes it far easier for contractors to program each station with less chance for errors caused by installing the modules out of sequential order.”

The new 12-station module is only compatible with ESP-LX Modular Controllers that have green buttons and a date code of January 1, 2010 or newer, as well as Rain Bird’s IQ Central Control Software, Version 1.7; the IQ DTC Communication Cartridge and the ET Manager-LXM Cartridge. The IQ DTC Communication Cartridge transforms an ESP-LX Modular controller to an IQ Satellite Controller, making it possible to conveniently communicate with the controller remotely from a desktop or laptop computer. The ET Manager-LXM Cartridge upgrades the ESP-LX Modular to an evapotranspiration- and weather-based smart controller.

“The new 12-station module for the ESP-LX Modular doesn’t just offer convenience and flexibility, it also saves money by providing additional station capacity at a lower cost per station,” Brooker added. “The ESP-LX Modular can now bring the ease and accuracy of Rain Bird’s Extra Simple Programming to an even broader range of applications around the world.”
