Ball, Farrell, Strickland win MiLB turf manager awards

For the fifth consecutive year, Myrtle Beach Pelicans Senior Director of Sports Turf Management and Ballpark Operations Chris “Butter” Ball has been named the Carolina League’s Sports Turf Manager of the Year, and his playing surface at BB&T Coastal Field has been named the best in the Carolina League in a vote by league field staffs.

The International League announced Durham Bulls Head Groundskeeper Scott Strickland was named the league’s 2010 Sports Turf Manager of the Year.

And the best field in the Northwest League is… Avista Stadium! Again. The league awarded the NWL Field of the Year award to the Spokane Indians for the sixth straight year. The Field of the Year award is given to the team that has the best playing surface and “maintains a great field throughout the season”. The NWL managers and coaches vote on the award.
