Assistant Sports Turf Manager
The George Mason University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics seeks an Assistant Sports Turf Manager to assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities in the day-to-day operation of the 70-acre West Campus outdoor athletic recreation complex.
Specific areas include Mason Stadium, Spuhler Baseball Field, Mason Softball Field, four multiuse recreation fields, two intercollegiate practice fields and six tennis courts. The fields are all Bermuda grass except for two synthetic in-fill recreation fields.
Duties:
– Assists in the administration of a turf maintenance contract for all athletic, recreation and club sports fields;
– Assists in the administration of a turf maintenance contract for all West Campus common areas;
– Hires, trains and supervises part-time employees;
– Provides general maintenance, upkeep and repair for all West Campus outdoor areas;
– Plans and completes a myriad of grounds-related projects;
– Provides support services for events, scheduling services, intramurals and club sports in relation to the use of West Campus areas;
– Provides general utility services for the Field House building; and
– Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
– B.S. in turf grass management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience;
– Pesticide applicator’s license for the commonwealth of Virginia, or be able to attain one within 30 days of employment;
– Ability to lift 75 pounds; and
– Valid driver’s license.
Hours are flexible. Normal hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weekends required. This position requires a criminal background check.
