Ewing expands education team, appoints Glazener instructor

As a member of Ewing’s Education Services Team, Tom Glazener will serve as a full-time instructor, providing technical instruction and hands-on training to landscape and irrigation professionals nationwide.

In his new role, Glazener will offer instruction on topics including, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, irrigation contracting, irrigation auditing, water management and business development. He will also work on course development and custom training programs for larger contractors.

“We sharpen, oil and maintain all of our other tools. We invest in their upkeep and proper storage. Education and learning does the same for the brain—our most important tool,” said Glazener. “It keeps us fresh on that which we already know, and opens us to new opportunities.”

With more than 18 years in the Green Industry, Glazener’s career began as a gardener in San Francisco in the late 1980’s. In 1995, after a five-year hiatus in pediatric rehabilitation in Washington and Oregon, Tom returned to his Green Industry roots and joined the Urban Farmer Store, a respected Bay Area distributor noted for its expertise in drip/micro irrigation. There he worked as an irrigation technician, branch manager and operations manager. Tom left the Urban Farmer ten years later to represent landscape lighting manufacturer FX Luminaire, serving the Pacific Northwest.

Tom joined the Ewing team in 2006, and has since served Ewing in a variety of capacities, including sales representative and branch manager of Ewing’s Vancouver, Washington, facility. Since 2007, he has assisted the education team as a part-time instructor and has conducted research in support of new curriculum development.

Tom is a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA), Certified Irrigation Designer (CID), Certified Golf Irrigation Auditor (CGIA), Certified Landscape Water Manager (CLWM) and an EPA WaterSense™ Partner. He is an active member of the Irrigation Association (IA), Washington Association of Landscape Professionals (WALP) and the Oregon Landscape Contractors Association’s (OLCA) Legislative Committee and Expo Committee. Tom is a graduate of Vassar College, New York, and is based out of Ewing’s Vancouver, Wash., branch, located at 11006 N.E. 37th Cir., #100.

Ewing’s 2010-2011education season will launch in September, with more than 175 classes and workshops scheduled throughout the country. To learn more, visit www.ewingeducationservices.com.
