Rain Bird has released an industry white paper examining the link between the water conservation movement and the green industry. Water Conservation and the Green Industry details the trends, issues and factors driving the important water conservation movement and their impact on the green industry and its affiliates.
The third in a series of white papers providing a comprehensive review of the role of efficient irrigation as a key part of the solution to the global water scarcity problem, Water Conservation and the Green Industry continues the discussion of the important issues raised in Rain Bird’s first two white papers, A Homeowner’s Guide to Water-Efficient Landscapes and Irrigation for a Growing World.
The paper begins by revisiting the world’s water crisis as addressed in more detail in Rain Bird’s first white paper, Irrigation for a Growing World, followed by a closer look at today’s trends and influencing factors that are driving the water conservation movement. The paper also details advances in efficient irrigation and green industry technology, presents varying perspectives on conservation initiatives and policies, and addresses potential barriers towards the goal of achieving global sustainability. Each chapter is supported with numerous case studies, charts, graphs and additional sources of information.
“The extent to which conservation through efficient irrigation will be a long-term solution to water shortages depends on the extent to which the green industry and the general public is educated on outdoor water conservation,” said Dave Johnson, Rain Bird’s Corporate Marketing Director. “By presenting a variety of viewpoints – those of sports field managers, turfgrass growers, builders, municipalities and local government representatives, landscape architects, irrigation consultants, landscape contractors, and non-governmental environmental groups – the paper identifies areas in which there is common ground as well as opportunities for further collaboration by different green industry groups.”
Water Conservation and The Green Industry is publicly available as a PDF download in The Intelligent Use of Water section of Rain Bird’s website. Copies will also be available at Rain Bird’s Intelligent Use of Water Summit: State of The Union scheduled for April 15 at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC.
