The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission has unanimously approved plans to renovate the Beach Chalet soccer fields on the west end of Golden Gate Park, adding night lighting and replacing grass play areas with synthetic turf.
The proposed change would triple the number of playtime hours on the fields to 14,320 a year, according to park officials. Two of the four soccer pitches also would be lined for lacrosse games.
