Southeast regional turf conference in NY Feb 23-24

The New York State Turfgrass Association’s Southeast Regional Conference will be held on February 23-24, 2010 at the Holiday Inn – Suffern in Suffern, New York.  This event will open with a comprehensive half-day nutrient management symposium on February 23 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Made possible by a grant from the Environmental Stewardship Fund, leading experts from Cornell University will answer questions concerning fertility and local regulations, and the value of phosphorus in a fertilizer program.  Known for his attention-grabbing style and riveting discussions, Dr. Frank Rossi will team up with Dr. Marty Petrovic, author of over 200 scientific articles, to review the role of nutrients in turf, how to manage fertility while preserving water quality, and best management practices.

The conference continues on Wednesday, February 24, with a full day of educational sessions featuring dynamic speakers from a wide variety of industry backgrounds and a trade show from 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.  Additional exhibitor information is available on the NYSTA web site and in the conference brochure.

Richard Buckley, Rutgers University, will present an early bird session on turf disease and Dr. Pat Vittum, University of Massachusetts, will present the general session on insecticides, resistance management, and how to add newly registered Acelepryn into your management program.

Other topics being presented include golf and sports turf, lawn and landscape and cemetery maintenance.  CLT Training sessions will be offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension educators from Suffolk and Westchester Counties on ornamental entomology.
