The synergy of sister companies A-Turf and Surface America has once again struck gold, this time teaming up to create the athletic playing surface and flooring for Sports Performance Park, western New York’s newest indoor baseball training and fitness facility. The grand opening gala is scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2009.
Located inside the Eastern Hills Mall in Williamsville, NY, just minutes from A-Turf and Surface America headquarters, Sports Performance Park, is a prototype indoor sports facility catering to athletes of varying skills and ability. Featuring nearly 50,000 square feet of A-Turf synthetic grass and Surface America rubber flooring, the latest equipment and know-how in the world of fitness and baseball, athletes will hone their skills and build strength and agility.
Featured at Sports Performance Park is the Thurman Thomas Sports Training Group, headed up by NFL Hall of Famer, Thurman Thomas. The group specializing in the training of committed athletes, from youth to professionals, in a variety of sports. Athletes work out on a short-napped A-Turf synthetic turf system that combines durable fibers with a factory applied pad attached to the carpet backing for added shock absorption.
For competitive play, the facility offers a full-size indoor baseball field featuring an A-Turf rubber infilled system, which replicates the play of natural grass. Both the size and surface quality set it apart from nearly every other indoor baseball venue. Batting cages, pitching areas and dugouts, all with A-Turf under foot, along with the stadium-like façade in front of the attached retail store and baseball fencing, round out the impressive baseball themed venue.
Surrounding the turf in the high-traffic areas is Surface America’s EverTop System, a tough, but attractive, flooring made from a rubber and urethane mix. The surface, which is troweled on-site in complementary colors, adds durability, flexibility, and a tasteful finish to a well-designed layout.
The indoor mall sports concept is being considered at other malls across the country as a model for increasing shopper traffic and adding an element of convenience for busy families.
