To be eligible to submit an application for a SAFE scholarship, a student must be an STMA Student member and enrolled in turf management or a related subject with the intention of pursuing sports turf management or research as a career, and have one semester of study remaining.

Deadline for SAFE scholarship applications is Oct. 15

Since the inception of the SAFE Scholarship Program in 2000, the foundation has awarded more than $125,000 in scholarship and travel to deserving students.  In 2008 we awarded $12,500 to eight recipients in two-year, four-year, and graduate level categories.  No recipient receives less than $1,000 and the committee likes to help as many students as possible with the money they are authorized to distribute. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, computers, software, or other academic expenses approved by the SAFE Foundation.  Former winners are MLB and NFL groundskeepers, STMA Presidents, and leading researchers in the field.
