PBI/Gordon and Mitsui Chemicals Agro partner

PBI/Gordon Corporation has announced a recently finalized agreement with Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc. of Tokyo, Japan.  The agreement gives PBI/Gordon marketing rights to dinotefuran in the United States golf market, as well as certain rights in other professional turf and ornamental markets.

Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc. is a subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. “We are very pleased to announce this new relationship with Mitsui,” said Mr. Tom Hoffman, Vice President of Product Development for PBI/Gordon.  “As a United States marketing partner with Mitsui, we are excited to bring dinotefuran to the United States golf and professional turf and ornamental markets,” he continued.

Mark Miller, Vice President of PBI/Gordon’s Professional Turf & Ornamental Sales group, also expressed his excitement of bringing dinotefuran to market.  “The addition of dinotefuran to our professional products group will offer an even broader product selection for our distributor and end-user customer base.”  The company’s professional product line currently includes herbicides, fungicides, plant growth regulators, micronutrients and plant nutrient supplements as well as insecticides.

“Dinotefuran will be a great addition to our insecticide portfolio, which currently includes Azatrol EC and ImidiPRO products,” explains John Spaulding, Product Manager for Gordon’s insecticides. “It’s highly systemic action, rapid translocation through the plant as well as its highly favorable environmental and toxicology profile will offer a unique  alternative control for many key insect pests,” he continued.

Dinotefuran is a neonicotinoid insecticide which will be marketed by PBI/Gordon in two formulations, a 20SG (soluble granule) for turf and a 10SL (soluble liquid) for ornamental insect pests.  The 20SG turf formulation is labeled for such key insect pests as chinch bugs, crane flies, mole crickets, Lepidoptera and grubs.  The 10SL formulation will control a broad range of ornamental insect pests, such as aphids, whiteflies, Lepidoptera, emerald ash borer and Japanese beetles.

Sample product will be out this summer for demonstration and testing in most states.  Product availability for sale is anticipated for the 2010 season. Soon to be announced is the trade name and pricing of the product.
