Three fall Athletic Field Maintenance Forums scheduled

The Toro Company, Beacon Athletics and Diamond Pro are joining forces again to present three Athletic Field Maintenance Forums this fall. The forums are scheduled for Minneapolis (August 5), Denver (September 30), and Kansas City, Mo. (October 27). Individuals can register at www.beaconathletics.com/seminars/.

“This is the third year we have offered such forums, and they have been very well received,” said Dale Getz, CSFM, CSE, and sports fields and grounds sales manager at Toro. “After spending the day at one of these forums, attendees will know how to achieve desired results and avoid costly mistakes.”

These comprehensive sessions combine hands-on and classroom instruction with proven techniques and skills to enhance field maintenance knowledge. The forums will cover a broad range of topics including:

Aerification, topdressing and mowing;
Infield soils and topdressings;
Mound and home plate management; and
On-field demonstrations.

Featured speakers at this year’s forums include:

Toro’s Dale Getz, who also served as superintendent of golf at the University of Notre Dame. Getz was with Notre Dame for 17 years and has published numerous articles on sports turf management.
Boyd Montgomery, CSFM, CSE, commercial district sales manager for Toro, and former facilities and maintenance director at Sylvania Recreation Corporation. Montgomery has published numerous articles on sports turf management and operations.
Paul Zwaska from Beacon Athletics, and former head groundskeeper for the Baltimore Orioles. Zwaska has 28 years of grounds experience.
Tom Burns from Diamond Pro, and former head groundskeeper for the Texas Rangers. Burns is widely known and respected as one of the top groundskeepers in major league baseball. Participants attending an Athletic Field Maintenance Forum will earn 0.6 CEU’s in Continuing Education from STMA.
