Two-and-a-half years after voters approved spending up to $6 million to rehabilitate East Greenwich’s high school’s athletic fields and add two more fields for recreation and private youth sports teams, it now appears that the extra fields will not be built.


The committee overseeing construction began the project without first getting all the permits it needs from the Department of Environmental Management.


As a result, the committee finds itself boxed into a corner because the portion of the project on high school property is well under way — the new footfall field with artificial turf should be ready by September — yet there is no agreement on how the other fields will be watered.
