Turf vendors appeal to Wichita school district for chance to bid

Three companies are protesting the Wichita school district’s decision not to allow them to bid on the installation of artificial turf fields at five high schools.


Appeal hearings are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Monday for the three vendors: Andover-based ATG Sports, Overland Park-based General Sports Venue and New York-based A-Turf.


All of the companies submitted proposals the first time the district chose a turf contractor, in April.


After the school board awarded a $3.7 million contract to Texas-based Hellas Construction, ATG contested the proposal process. Board members rescinded the Hellas contract on April 27.
