Petaluma may lay off City Hall employees and leave potholes unfilled, but it is expected to spend thousands of dollars to replace artificial turf at Lucchesi Park.


The City Council will be asked Monday to authorize a $343,000 contract with a Georgia firm to replace the worn turf at the popular soccer and lacrosse field with new monofilament fiber and paint it to league specifications.


User fees collected since the old turf was installed nine years ago will pay about two-thirds of the cost, while the rest will come from money set aside in the city’s ailing general fund budget.
