MLB’s Padres building clean, safe fields for youth baseball

To help celebrate the 60th anniversary of professional baseball in San Diego, dating to the 1936 Pacific Coast League Padres, Chairman John Moores suggested refurbishing baseball diamonds where youngsters throughout the region (including Baja, California) could play ball in clean, safe settings. Little Padres Parks have big-league landscaping, scoreboards, and signature palm trees in the outfield.

These parks are found all over San Diego County – from Oceanside to the South Bay, as far north as Lake Elsinore, east to El Centro and even south of the border in Tijuana – with more on the way. Parks have been dedicated in honor of Jackie Robinson, San Diego native Ted Williams, Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, former Padres pitcher Matt LaChappa, and Andres Berumen, the first Tijuana native to pitch for the Padres.

One of the Little Padres Parks represents a special partnership with the Miracle League of San Diego and the County of San Diego on building a regional Miracle League Field at San Dieguito Park, the first field of its kind in Southern California. The Miracle League is a charitable organization that provides children with mental or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league. The Miracle League’s mission is to build ADA accessible ball fields and to operate a league that serves the approximately 35,000 children with disabilities in San Diego County. For more information, please contact Annette Eros, Executive Director, Miracle League of San Diego, (619) 587-0477, Annette.eros@miracleleagueofsandiego.org.

The Padres are committed to supporting youth baseball & softball through this program and we couldn’t complete these parks without the ongoing support of our dedicated Little Padres Parks partners. Thank you to the following valuable landscaping partners:
