The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) are currently accepting resumes for a Seasonal Sports Turf Management Intern.  This program will begin in January 2009 and extend through September 1, 2009 (plus playoffs if applicable), however, exact dates are flexible dependent upon school schedules.


The Seasonal Sports Turf Management Intern will work directly with the Head Groundskeeper, Ballpark Operations staff and the Front Office on the daily execution of tasks.  The field at Arvest Ballpark features a sand-based bermudagrass surface that is over-seeded with perennial ryegrass.  Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Sod work
Pre-game and batting practice field preparations
Irrigation
Tarping
Field set-up and clean-up for concerts or other extra events
Maintenance of outside green areas
Mound, plate, and infield skin maintenance
Field applications
All aspects of turf maintenance
Performing administrative tasks
Performs any miscellaneous game and office-related duties as assigned
Responsible for working diligently on a daily basis
Responsible to run errands when asked
This seasonal position reports to the Head Groundskeeper

Requirements:

Must be willing to work long hours, weekends, and holidays (all home Naturals games and TBD special events).
Must be willing to cooperate and work well with all other areas of our organization.
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must be willing to complete the internship through its entirety.
Must have knowledge of baseball.
Candidates should be enrolled in Turfgrass Management or related college program.
Exceptional organizational skills.
Strong customer service skills.

The position will be required to aid in various daily ballpark areas.  This is a paid internship with a bi-weekly stipend of $565 (pre-tax). Naturals Baseball will aide in the fulfillment of any class requirements throughout the summer as well. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive assistance in career planning, a positive job recommendation, and will be considered for any openings within the Northwest Arkansas Naturals
