Just before a light rain last week, Alex Bennet tossed a football with friends at the Irvington Middle-High School (NY) campus.

The teens played hard, knowing that the shower could make the football field unusable for days afterward.

“The conditions after it rains are terrible,” said Bennet, 14, a defensive end on the junior varsity football team. “This community has nothing for the kids. The smallest thing they can do is give us a new field.”
