Seasonal opportunity with San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres are currently seeking a qualified individual for the upcoming 2009 baseball season as a Seasonal Assistant. Petco Park offers a first-class working facility in the heart of downtown San Diego. As a multi-use facility, Petco Park is the home of the San Diego Padres and has also hosted a wide range of non-baseball events that include: USA World Series Rugby 7’s, World Cup Soccer, World Baseball Classic, concerts, and other corporate- sponsored events. This individual will experience first-hand the basic knowledge and demeanor that is needed to maintain a sports field at the professional level.

Job Requirements:

This individual must respect the privacy and adhere to all Padres policies with regards to autographs, photos, and fraternizing with VIP’s. We expect that a professional appearance and demeanor be displayed at all times (clean cut and no visible tattoos).  A strong ability to work well with co-workers and supervisors in a team environment is desired. Due to the physical nature of the job, all candidates should be able to lift, carry, and transport up to 100 pounds. We offer a base wage of $12.70 per hour while working 40 – 55 hours per week including weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited university that is majoring in Turf Management or other related field of study. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Our Seasonal Assistant position is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is eager to learn all facets of maintaining a professional playing surface throughout the duration of a season. This position concentrates heavily on performing the proper techniques of maintaining all pitchers’ mounds, homeplate area, and bullpen areas to ensure they meet all Major League Baseball specifications. You will also experience the various ways of preparing and maintaining the infield skin area to provide a true consistent surface on a daily basis. Other areas of responsibilities include but not limited to: daily upkeep of warning track surface, assisting with fertilizer applications, hand watering, as well as learning a variety of other cultural practices that take place to maintain the integrity of the entire playing surface. The location of Petco Park on the bay provides a unique opportunity to learn the local environmental challenges that are involved with maintaining an Overseeded Bermudagrass surface that was constructed to meet USGA specifications.
