Optimum conditions are most important as the matches become more crucial. Only the finest teams in Connecticut’s rolling hills make it to the quarterfinal level and the quality of the venues for such monumental clashes should be first-class.

Regrettably, such was not the case Saturday afternoon when soccer-rich neighbors Avon and Farmington met at Fisher Meadows, a collection of athletic fields nestled between Waterville Road (Rte. 10) and the Avon Old Farms campus.
