LEWISBORO, NY—A new limitation on state aid will likely not affect aid that the Katonah-Lewisboro School District is counting on to help reconstruct athletic fields at John Jay Middle and High Schools, school officials said. The state education department has released regulations, effective immediately, that would deny state aid to athletic field projects using synthetic turf unless the manufacturer of the turf will guarantee the field for 15 years or more. According to the Web site of the Synthetic Turf Council, an industry group, turf fields “usually last up to 10 years,” and typical warrantees run for seven to eight years.
