UConn coach prefers natural turf

STORRS, CT—When University of Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall led his players on the field for a scrimmage at Rentschler Field Monday, he couldn’t help feel the grass beneath his feet.
It was plush and thick, better than at any point during the 2007 season.
“It was great,” Edsall said. “It might have been in the best shape that we’ve seen it since opening game.”
That’s opening game, 2003. The turf on the newly christened Rentschler Field was immaculate when UConn played its first home game at the new stadium 5 years ago.
