Neri moves to Altoona Curve

STATE COLLEGE, PA—Below Medlar Field at Lubrano Park’s massive right-field wall, Matt Neri lurked, watching parts of State College Spikes and Penn State baseball games from a small office containing a dust-covered window.

The office featured other necessities.

A laptop sat on a barren desk. A television hung from the top corner of the wall. A refrigerator rested to the right of the desk. All were covered with dust.

Neri, the Spikes’ head sports turf manager, left his dusty Medlar Field at Lubrano Park job this past week to assume the same position at Blair County Ballpark.

Like many things in baseball, a chain of events led to Neri’s promotion.
