Pauley's new home turf will be in Athens

The last time Kenny Pauley stepped on the turf at the University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium, he was wearing a Western Carolina football uniform in his role as the Catamounts’ punter.
He wasn’t there as a competitor at present.
“If I tried to kick, I’d probably pull a hamstring,” said Pauley, a former Shelby High standout in the late 1980s.

This week he got to watch his seven-year-old son kick an old Gatorade container across the hallowed turf there.
“A lot of adults in Georgia would like to have that chance,” Pauley said.
He knows because he was in Athens this week finalizing the deal to take over as the turf manager at all Bulldog athletic facilities. He had served in that role at WCU before being wooed by the Southeastern Conference school.
